Enhanced solution provides manufacturers with a web-based platform for real-time visibility of waste, helping them quickly identify where it is coming from and what it is costing them.

Leicester, Durham, UK, 19 October 2026 – Micro Weighing Solutions (MWS Ltd), the independent UK manufacturer of industrial weighing equipment and calibration services, has officially announced the enhanced version of TraceWaste, a weighing and waste tracking solution designed to help manufacturers understand where waste is being generated and how much it is costing them.

Combining weighing equipment and touchscreen data capture stations, TraceWaste records waste at the point it is generated. For manufacturers, TraceWaste can be used to monitor a range of waste streams, including setup waste, product rejects and raw material waste. By tracking waste against products, locations, departments and reasons, manufacturers can identify patterns that may otherwise be difficult to see. The simple and intuitive user interface makes waste reporting quick and easy for operatives to log waste accurately.

The waste data is then made available through a web-based system. This enables production and management teams to analyse waste in real-time through detailed reports and dashboards, with different teams able to create dashboards specific to their area of concern. This gives manufacturers greater visibility of recurring problems and trends across their production environment, helping them identify which areas need further investigation.

Andrew Clarke, Managing Director at MWS Ltd, said, “Most manufacturers know they have waste, but the difficult part is understanding where it is coming from, why it is happening and what it is really costing the business. TraceWaste brings together two areas we understand well at MWS, industrial weighing and the practical challenges of manufacturing, and turns the information captured during the weighing process into something that can be used to support improvement.”

Designed around the production environment, TraceWaste can be configured to suit individual customer processes. Operators can record waste directly at the weighing station via a touchscreen tablet, while barcode scanning can be used to reduce manual data entry. RFID can also be used for operator identification.

The system can connect with existing compatible weighing equipment, allowing manufacturers to use their current weighing processes while adding connected waste tracking and reporting capabilities. The solution is cloud-based and uses a 4G connection or Wi-Fi connection, providing the option to run outside of the customer’s IT network.

Mohamed Trid, Senior Project Engineer at MWS Ltd, said, “We have enhanced TraceWaste to work around the realities of a production floor. Capturing a weight is only one part of the process. The system needs to make it easy for operators to record the right information at the right time, while giving managers useful data that they can actually work with. Every production environment is different, which is why we’ve made TraceWaste highly configurable around the customer’s specific processes. The aim is to make waste data easier to capture and much more useful once it has been collected.”

TraceWaste is available through a subscription model designed to reduce the upfront investment associated with implementing a new weighing and waste tracking systems. MWS also provides suitable weighing equipment and ongoing maintenance where required.
